Nothing feels quite as good as that first moment when you curl into bed that's sporting a new set of sheets. They're soft, comforting... and oh so hard to emerge from come morning. So why not keep your bedding feeling (and looking) like that for years to come? All you have to do is make a habit of washing them with care, and the threads can stay strong without roughening or fraying for up to 8 years!
Read on to find out our sheet-preserving tips:
Ditch the hot water.
Why? Cotton (even when preshrunk) will shrink a bit in high heat. Choose warm or cold temps on all cycles.
Just say 'no' to fabric softeners or dryer sheets.
I know. We were surprised, too. After all, how could anything with the word 'softener' in the title do any wrong? But as it turns out, the chemicals in these additives break down threads, causing premature fraying. Tip: When washing, use half the recommended detergent dose.
Do not let sheets dry completely in the dryer.
That's because the second fabric overheats, it becomes brittle. Partially dry on your machine’s lowest setting until damp, then hang to finish.
